THIS ARTICLE SUMMARIZES THE LEAA-SPONSORED EFFORTS TO DEVELOP A RELIABLE HOME ALARM SYSTEM COSTING LESS THAN 300 DOLLARS AND REPORTS ON THE KEY COMPONENTS AND HARDWARE OF THE NEWLY DEVELOPED LOW COST ALARM SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE MAJOR FEATURES OF THIS SYSTEM ARE: 1) A LOW COST AND RELIABLE THERMAL INTRUSION DETECTION DEVICE; 2) MINIATURE WIRELESS COMMUNICATION MEANS FOR CONNECTING SENOSRS TO A CENTRAL CONTROLLER; 3) A LOW COST MICROCOMPUTER CONTROLLER; AND 4) A SINGLE POINT USER CONTROL FROM A DEADBOLT LOCK AT THE ENTRANCE. THE OPERATIONS AND APPLICATIONS OF THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS ARE DETAILED IN THIS ARTICLE.
