This National Institute of Corrections' (NICs) Service Plan for fiscal year 2003 (begins October 1, 2002) contains information, technical assistance, and training programs designed for adult correctional practitioners who work in all corrections disciplines in Federal, State, and local adult corrections agencies; cooperative agreements the NIC anticipates funding in fiscal year 2003 are also included.
Abstract
The Service Plan first describes programs and services provided by the NIC for all corrections disciplines. These include training programs, videoconferences, and technical assistance under the following topics: leadership and management; helping agencies build capacity for training; offender management; addressing staff sexual misconduct; offender job training, placement, and retention; and women offenders. Information on the training programs includes who should attend, a brief description of the program, application requirements, and a contact person. After profiling services and programs for all corrections disciplines, this report then focuses on programs and services for specific disciplines. Information on training programs and technical assistance for jails covers the following issues: jail administration, inmate supervision and management, inmate classification in jails, new jail planning, educating local officials and the community, jail standards and inspections, and jail mental health services. Programs and services for prisons encompass leadership and management, prison management and operations, institutional culture, and objective classification. Programs and services for community corrections address executive orientation, effective offender management, and management and operations. The report then profiles NIC's various types of services, namely, international assistance; information services; technical assistance; videoconferences; distance learning training; e-learning training; training center programs in Longmont, Colorado; NIC-paid training beyond Longmont, Colorado; and partnership programs. Various forms used in programs and services are included as well.
