THIS AUDIO CASSETTE AND FILM STRIP UNIT DISCUSSES THE BASIC ROLE OF JAILS IN THE SAFEKEEPING OF SOCIETY AND THE CORRECTIONAL OBJECTIVE OF REHABILITATION.
Abstract
IT IS NOT SUFFICIENT THAT JAILS BE SAFE AND SECURE, THEY MUST ALSO CORRECT. TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES EACH OFFICER MUST CORRDINATE HIS WORK WITH THAT OF HIS FELLOW EMPLOYEES. THE SAFETY OF ALL PERSONNEL DEPENDS UPON THEIR BEING ABLE TO RELY ON EACH OTHER. PROCEDURES AT ADMISSION TO JAIL MUST INCLUDE THE PROPER IDENTIFICATION OF THE OFFENDER AND THE ACCOMPANYING OFFICER. IF THE OFFENDER IS INJURED OR ILL, HE MUST BE GIVEN PROMPT ATTENTION. PERSONAL PROPERTY OF THE PRISONER SHOULD BE CONFISCATED AND INVENTORIED; THE PRISONER SHOULD BE GIVEN A COPY OF THE INVENTORY AFTER HE HAS SIGNED IT. COPIES OF THE PRIONER'S FINGERPRINTS MUST BE SENT TO THE FBI AND USED TO INDICATE THE PRIOR OFFENSES OF THE PRISONER AND ANY OUTSTANDING WARRANTS AGAINST HIM FROM OTHER JURISDICTIONS. EVALUATION OF THE PRISONER ON THE BASIS OF HEALTH, OFFENSE, ATTITUDE, AND MENTALITY SHOULD OCCUR WITHIN 24 HOURS OF ADMISSION AND WILL BE USED IN THE ASSIGNMENT OF THE PRISONER TO A WALK. CONTRABAND MUST BE CONTROLLED BY THE INVESTIGATION OF ANY ITEM IN AN INMATES POSSESSION WHICH HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED BY THE JAIL. RANDOM SEARCHES OF THE JAIL FACILITIES SHOULD BE DONE DAILY. PROPER METHODS OF FRISKING FOR WEAPONS, DRUGS, AND ADDITIONAL CONTRABAND ARE OUTLINED. DANGEROUS WEAPONS CAN BE MADE FROM THE METAL PARTS OF BUNKS AND FIXTURES, WHICH SHOULD BE INSPECTED. EACH PRISONER, UNDER A GUARD'S RESPONSIBILITY, SHOULD BE SEEN BY THE GUARD AT LEAST ONCE EACH DAY. ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION CONCERNS KEY CONTROL AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. (TWK). EACH DAY. ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION CONCERNS KEY CONTROL AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. (TWK).
