THIS HANDBOOK WAS PREPARED BY THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ASSIST AREA COMMANDING OFFICERS AND THEIR STAFFS IN PREPARING FOR THE ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSITION FROM CONVENTIONAL TO CITYWIDE TEAM POLICING.
Abstract
THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF PERSONNEL ALREADY INVOLVED IN TEAM POLICING, AS WELL AS THE EVALUATIONS OF THE VENICE TEAM 28 EXPERIMENT, (NCJ-25754) WERE RELIED ON HEAVILY IN FORMULATING THE GUIDELINES CONTAINED IN THIS REPORT. INCLUDED ARE GUIDELINES FOR PERSONNEL DISTRIBUTION TO AREAS, THE SELECTION AND ASSIGNMENT OF PERSONNEL TO TEAMS WITHIN THE AREAS, TEAM ORGANIZATION, RADIO COMMUNICATIONS, MANAGEMENT, TRAINING, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE CONTROL, BOOKING PROCEDURES, REPORTING PROCEDURES, AND STATION FACILITIES. THE ADDENDA CONTAIN EXTENSIVE SUPPORT MATERIAL ON PERSONNEL DEPLOYMENT, TRAINING, AND PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION.
