THIS IS AN EVALUATION OF THE TEAM APPROACH TO RESOLVING INMATE ISSUES SUCH AS CELL ASSIGNMENT, WORK AND PROGRAM ASSIGNMENT, FURLOUGH REQUESTS, DISCIPLINARY ACTION, AND AWARD OF SPECIAL MERIT TIME.
Abstract
THE CENTRAL TASK OF THE RESEARCH WAS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTS OF TEAM CLASSIFICATION ON THE RELATIONS AND UNDERSTANDING AMONG STAFF AND BETWEEN STAFF AND INMATES. A 90-ITEM SURVEY WAS DISTRIBUTED TO STAFF IN THE SEVEN INSTITUTIONS STUDIES. A SECOND 90-ITEM SURVEY WAS ADMINISTERED TO A SAMPLE OF INMATES FROM EACH OF THE INSTITUTIONS. IN ADDITION TO MEASURING THE LENGTH AND FREQUENCY OF PARTICIPATION ON TEAM CLASSIFICATION, THE SURVEYS MEASURED THE REPONDENTS' ATTITUDES ON THE DEGREE TO WHICH TEAM CLASSIFICATION IS IMPLEMENTED OR ACTUALIZED, TOWARD TEAM CLASSIFICATION IMPACT, AND TOWARD GENERAL CONDITIONS IN THE INSTITUTIONS...RCB
