THIS PAPER DESCRIBES HOW THE SOUTH CAROLINA PROBATION, PAROLE, AND PARDON BOARD HAS RESPONDED TO THE NEED TO BE ACCOUNTABLE IN EACH INDIVIDUAL CASE, DESPITE OFFICERS' INCREASING CASELOADS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
Abstract
A WORKSHOP WAS HELD IN ORDER TO ACQUAINT THE OFFICERS WITH CASELOAD MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES AS WELL AS SUPPORTING INFORMATION. SPECIALIZED INTERVIEWING SKILLS, COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES, AND QUALITY OF CASE RECORDING WERE STRESSED. THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS BASE EXPECTANCY SCORING SYSTEM WAS PRESENTED AS AN EXAMPLE OF A FORMALIZED METHOD FOR DETERMINING PRIORITIES IN CASELOAD HANDLING.
