This resource manual contains 25 lesson plans with study guides and complete bibliographies, test and essay questions, and suggested class activities, plus 5 monographs, from select criminal justice courses dealing with comparative and cross-cultural criminal justice issues, collected from throughout the United States by the Curriculum Committee of the International Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
Abstract
This manual was prepared by the Curriculum Committee in order to further efforts in the areas of international information management and exchange, criminal justice research, curriculum development, and general international networking. It was found that 32 percent of the programs surveyed provided comparative or international courses, usually at the upper undergraduate level with focus on England and Japan. This manual includes five monographs from Committee members experienced in teaching international criminal justice. The 25 lesson plans include a bibliography and cover a spectrum of criminal justice areas such as comparative legal traditions, comparative cross-cultural criminology, comparative crime and deviance, and the international study of crime and justice. At the conclusion of the manual are sections on using video to teach comparative systems of criminal justice, and searching the Internet for sites on comparative criminal justice. This publication is intended to be a catalyst for ongoing analysis and evaluation of course content and direction of international/comparative criminal justice education.
