Abstract
Guidelines on personal protection explain protection when outside, when using public transportation, and when handling potentially risky situations in the home. Advice on physical security measures for the home covers doors, locks, windows, garages, lights, landscaping, alarms, and protection when away from home. Business security is discussed in terms of the basic preventive measures that should be taken, shoplifting prevention, the handling of armed robbery, building security, and prevention of internal theft. Farm security guidelines cover the protection of buildings, machinery and tools, crops, and livestock. Measures for preventing sexual assault are given. Symptoms of drug abuse among children and steps to take if drug abuse is suspected are listed. Ways that senior citizens can increase their personal safety and protect themselves against con artists and other strangers are described. Additional chapters cover the Neighborhood Watch program, protection from arson and vandalism, and recommended locks. A reference section lists brochures, films, and handouts available from the Tazewell County Sheriff's Department (Ill.). Illustrations are included.
