INDISCRIMINATE SNIPER ACTIVITY RESULTING IN MASS MURDERS AND THE HOLDING OF HOSTAGES IN THE WILLIAMSBURG SECTION OF BROOKLYN (NY) ARE AMONG THE TYPES OF INCIDENTS THAT SWAT TEAMS WERE DESIGNED TO HANDLE. BARRACADED CRIMINALS, RIOTS, DEMONSTRATIONS, CIVIL DISORDERS, AND TERRORIST ACTIVITIES ARE ALSO CITED.
