BODY ARMOR MAY SAVE LIVES, BUT UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, ITS USE MAY RESULT IN MORE CASUALTIES THAN IT AVOIDS THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SOFT ARMOR VS. RIGID ARMOR AND OF BODY ARMOR IN GENERAL ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
ARMY TESTS HAVE SHOWN THAT BODY ARMOR DECREASES THE BODY'S ABILITY TO DISSIPATE HEAT. FURTHERMORE, A SECOND SHOT OF CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE FIRST SHOT ON RIGID ARMOR MAY PENETRATE AND A ROUND STRIKING SOFT ARMOR CAN CAUSE SERIOUS BLUNT TRAUMA. THE WEARING CONDITIONS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED BEFORE BODYARMOR IS DONNED.
