THIS SURVEY OF PUBLIC LAVATORIES IN ENGLAND INDICATES THE DEGREE AND SPECIFIC MODE OF VANDALISTIC BEHAVIOR INFLICTED UPON EACH ITEM OF EQUIPMENT IN THE WASHROOMS.
Abstract
TYPES OF DAMAGE TO THE FOLLOWING PIECES OF EQUIPMENT ARE DISCUSSED: DOORS AND COIN LOCKS, FITTINGS, PIPES, SEATS, TOILET ROLL HOLDERS, WALLS, WASH BASINS, TOILET BOWLS, WINDOWS, AND LIGHT FIXTURES. THE PRESENCE OF GRAFFITI IS NOTED. THE AUTHORS, NOTING THAT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A VANDAL-PROOF WASHROOM, SUGGEST THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION WOULD BE TO CLOSE THESE FACILITIES EITHER EARLIER IN THE DAY OR COMPLETELY.
