RESULTS OF A 1978 SURVEY ON LEGAL POLICY RESEARCH IN FINLAND ARE PRESENTED, INCLUDING THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE RESEARCH ACCORDING TO CERTAIN CATEGORIES AND THE ORIGIN OF THE RESEARCH.
Abstract
THE SURVEY WAS DIRECTED AT UNIVERSITIES, RESEARCHERS WHO HAVE RECEIVED A GRANT, AND GOVERNMENTAL BODIES SUCH AS THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE. OF THE RESPONSES TO THE SURVEY, 89 PERCENT WERE REGARDED AS BELONGING TO THE LEGAL POLICY FIELD AND AS FULFILLING THE CRITERIA FOR RESEARCH. HOWEVER, THE RESEARCH INCLUDED IN THIS SURVEY VARIES GREATLY IN COMPREHENSIVENESS. OF RESEARCH IN PROGRESS, THE LARGEST CATEGORY WAS IN THE FIELD OF DEVIANT BEHAVIOR, PARTICULARLY THAT RELATED TO THE USE OF INTOXICANTS. THE SECOND LARGEST AREA OF RESEARCH WAS IN PHYSICAL SURROUNDINGS, WHICH INCLUDED RESEARCH ON LIVING CONDITIONS AND INCOME DISTRIBUTION. THE THIRD LARGEST CLASS OF RESEARCH WAS IN PRODUCTION AND EXCHANGE RELATIONS. OTHER AREAS OF RESEARCH SURVEYED INCLUDED THE BASIC RIGHTS OF CITIZENS AND THE RELATION BETWEEN PUBLIC AUTHORITY AND THE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY, THE ACQUISITION OF PUBLIC FUNDS, INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND GENERAL AGREEMENTS, THE FAMILY, LABOR, AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF LAW. THE MAJORITY OF THE RESEARCH WAS CARRIED OUT BY UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES (NOT INCLUDING UNDERGRADUATE THESES AND BELOW), FOLLOWED BY MINISTRIES OR NATIONAL DEPARTMENTS, AND PUBLIC AND RELATIVELY INDEPENDENT RESEARCH INSTITUTES. TABLES AND 27 REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED.
