RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 383 NON-METROPOLITAN MISSOURI DEPARTMENTS REGARDING POLICE CHIEF WILLINGNESS TO ADOPT A POLICY OF LATERAL ENTRY.
Abstract
FIFTY-FOUR DEPARTMENTS, COLLECTIVELY EMPLOYING 1,040 PERSONNEL, RETURNED THE QUESTIONNAIRE. FORTY-SIX PERCENT INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO IMPLEMENT A POLICY OF LATERAL ENTRY, SOME PROVIDING THAT OTHER DEPARTMENTS ALSO ADOPTED IT AS POLICY. OF THOSE WILLING TO IMPLEMENT LATERAL ENTRY, 16 PERCENT HAD ALREADY DONE SO. CHIEFS IN THESE DEPARTMENTS ALSO FAVORED COLLEGE DEGREE PATROL OFFICERS, MORE UTILIZATION OF CIVILIAN STAFF, AND A WRITTEN POLICY EXPLAINING THE USE OF FIREARMS.
