Abstract
CASE HISTORIES ARE PROVIDED THAT ILLUSTRATE THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE SUPPORTERS, OR BACKERS, OF CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS IN WHITE COLLAR CRIME, DRUG RELATED CRIME, ROBBERY ON A LARGE SCALE AND CRIME RELATED TO PROSTITUTION AND THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO IDENTIFY THESE PEOPLE AND OBTAIN EVIDENCE AGAINST THEM BECAUSE THOSE IN THE KNOW REFUSE TO TALK FOR FEAR OF REPRISALS. THE BEST WEAPONS ARE INFILTRATION, SURVEILLANCE AND PROVOCATION. GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL AND TAX RECORDS CAN ALSO BE HELPFUL. EXEMPTION OF WITNESSES FROM PROSECUTION CAN ALSO BE BENEFICIAL ON OCCASION. --IN GERMAN
