A NUMBER OF INMATES OF DANISH DETENTION CENTERS HAVE EXPRESSED A WISH FOR WELFARE ASSISTANCE BUT ARE EITHER NOT GETTING IT OR THE ASSISTANCE THEY ARE GETTING IS INSUFFICIENT.
Abstract
RESPONSES OF INMATES CONCERNING THE NATURE OF THE ASSISTANCE THEY NEED ARE TABULATED. THESE NEEDS INCLUDE ASSISTANCE IN CONNECTION WITH EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING, FAMILY PROBLEMS AND PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL AND DRUGS. A TOTAL OF 285 INMATES WERE INTERVIEWED. STATISTICS ARE ALSO PROVIDED ON THE CONTACTS MADE WITH THESE INMATES BY WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS WITH A VIEW TO ASSISTING THEM. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT MORE WELFARE ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED THAN IS BEING PROVIDED, BUT THAT THIS IS A COMPLICATED MATTER THAT CALLS FOR MORE EFFORT IN MANY AREAS. --IN DANISH
