This Substance Abuse Resource Guide provides information and referrals to assist professionals in the fields of drug prevention, criminal justice, policymaking, and education.
Abstract
The guide acknowledges that drugs and alcohol are associated with up to 50 percent of spouse abuse cases, 68 percent of manslaughter charges, and 52 percent of rapes and that those who use drugs are more likely than others to be involved as both assailants and victims in criminal acts. Drug prevention materials and programs are listed, along with relevant studies, articles, and reports. The focus is on drug-related violence, juvenile gang violence, domestic and family violence, rape, victims of violence, suicide, hate crimes, and violence in the media. Groups, organizations, and programs concerned with drug and violence prevention are noted.
