Abstract
The sample consisted of 100 cases of robbery and burglary reported to the police in Sagar City between January 1, 1984, and December 31, 1984. Cases were categorized as 'victim precipitated' or 'non-victim precipitated' according to the following factors reported in police files and discerned from interviews with the victims: negligence, exhibition of property, absence from home, intoxication, and victim involvement in criminal acts. Data were obtained on victims' ages, occupations, and marital status. Forty-six of the 100 cases involved victim precipitation. Crime precipitation was more frequent among victims aged 20-39. Victims who were wage earners had the highest frequency of crime precipitation, followed by shopholders/merchants, the unemployed, service occupations, and those in agriculture. Unmarried persons were more vulnerable to victimization than married persons. 4 tables and 3 references.
