COMPARISON OF VETERAN AND NON-VETERAN FELONS INCARCERATED IN THE TEXAS DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS, CONSIDERING THE INFLUENCE OF MILITARY SERVICE ON SUBSEQUENT CRIMINALITY.
Abstract
THE STUDY TESTED THE HYPOTHESIS THAT THE RIGOROUS DISCIPLINE AND INNATE AGGRESSIVENESS OF MILITARY TRAINING AND SERVICE ARE CAUSATIVE FACTORS IN SPECIFIC CRIMINALITY. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE SAMPLE INMATE POPULATION INVOLVED CROSS-TABULATION OF VARIABLES TO YIELD RAW DATA IN THE FORM OF FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION TABLES, WHICH ARE PRESENTED IN THE APPENDIX. A REVIEW OF RELEVANT LITERATURE AND A QUESTIONNAIRE ADMINISTERED TO 200 VETERAN FELONS WERE ALSO UTILIZED IN THE STUDY. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY YIELDED NO SUBSTANTIVE BASIS TO CONCLUDE A CAUSATIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MILITARY SERVICE AND SUBSEQUENT CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. A 3 PAGE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED.
