ANALYSIS OF PRESENT AND PROJECTED NUMBERS OF INMATES BY CATEGORY AND LEVEL OF SECURITY, CAPACITY OF EXISTING FACILITIES, AND NEW PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES REQUIRED.
Abstract
AS A RESULT OF THE STUDY, IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE EXISTING PHYSICAL FACILITIES BE AUGMENTED BY NEW CONSTRUCTION TO MEET THE CURRENT AND LONG-RANGE REQUIREMENTS OF THE SYSTEM. CORRECTIONAL AND REHABILITATIVE PROGRAM RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING - 1) AN INMATE DIAGNOSIS AND CLASSIFICATION FUNCTION DIRECTED TO THOSE CONVICTED WHO ARE AWAITING SENTENCE, 2) AN INTAKE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM, 3) EMPLOYMENT-RELATED PROGRAMS, BOTH IN THE INSTITUTION AND IN THE COMMUNITY, 4) EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND 5) COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATION TO PREPARE THE INDIVIDUAL FOR RELEASE, UTILIZING AVAILABLE COMMUNITY RESOURCES, TO AVOID THE ABRUPT TERMINATION OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES.
