SOCIAL FACTORS AND HOUSING CONDITIONS WHICH DIFFERENTIATE INCEST FROM NEGLECT CASES BASED ON A TEN YEAR SAMPLE IN THE HOUSTON AREA.
Abstract
FOLLOWING A DESCRIPTION OF STUDY METHODS, PROCEDURES, AND A REVIEW OF RELEVANT LITERATURE, AN ANALYSIS OF THE DATA IS PRESENTED. THIS INCLUDES A DISCUSSION OF SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MOTHERS AND FATHERS IN THE STUDY SAMPLE, HOME CONDITIONS AND INCEST OCCURRENCE, AND THE INCIDENCE OF ALCOHOLISM, PHYSICAL ABUSE, AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE BASELINE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INCEST VICTIM, DENIAL OF NORMALLY ACCEPTED SOCIAL ACTIVITIES, STRONG INVOLVEMENT IN FAMILY LIFE, EMPLOYMENT OF FATHERS, AND OTHER SOCIAL FACTORS. FINDINGS CONCERNING FAMILY DISORGANIZATION AND DESTRUCTIVE SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS ARE REPORTED ON IN THE CONCLUDING CHAPTER. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
