TWO KINDS OF DATA, AMONG THOSE TO BE INCLUDED IN INDIVIDUAL OFFENDER DOSSIERS, ARE DISCUSSED IN CONNECTION WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A UNIFORM DOSSIER MODEL.
Abstract
IN CONNECTION WITH PROPOSALS FOR ESTABLISHING A UNIFORM MODEL FOR INDIVIDUAL DOSSIERS OF OFFENDERS AS PART OF CORRECTIONAL RECORDS SYSTEMS, ATTENTION IS FOCUSED ON CRIMINOGRAPHIC CLASSIFICATION (LIMITED TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CRIMINAL PERSON, NOT THE CRIMINAL ACT PER SE) AND INTERACTION BETWEEN BIOLOGICAL AND NONBIOLOGICAL CRIME FACTORS IN THE DYNAMICS OF THE CRIMINAL PERSONALITY. NOTING THE COMPLEXITIES AND UNCERTAINTIES OF SOME TYPOLOGICAL SYSTEMS REQUIRING CONTINUOUS REDEFINITIONS AND REFORMULATIONS, THE DISCUSSION POINTS TO THE PREFERABILITY OF CLASSIFYING OFFENDERS ACCORDING TO BOTH THE TYPES OF OFFENSES THEY HAVE COMMITTED (THE LATTER AS DEFINED IN CRIMINAL CODES) AND THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE OFFENSES IN QUESTION (IN TERMS OF THE DAMAGE THEY HAVE CAUSED). MENTION IS MADE OF THE PROBLEM OF CLASSIFYING AND DESCRIBING CRIMINAL CAREERS OF HABITUAL OFFENDERS AND RECIDIVISTS. A TWO-DIMENSIONAL MODEL AS A GRAPHIC PORTRAYAL OF THE CRIMINAL PERSONALITY (IN TERMS OF INTERACTION BETWEEN BIOLOGICAL AND NONBIOLOGICAL CRIME FACTORS) IS DETAILED WITH THE NOTE THAT ADDING CRIMINOGENIC SITUATIONS TO BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSIONS WOULD IMPROVE THE EXPLANATORY POWER OF THE CRIMINAL PERSONALITY MODEL. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS APPENDED. (LGR)
