STUDY OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BEAT PATROLMAN OF ROCHESTER NEW YORK AND THE PEOPLE HE SERVES BOTH WITHIN AND OUTSIDE OF THE INNER CITY.
Abstract
RESEARCH TECHNIQUES INCLUDED INTERVIEWS, QUESTIONNAIRES, LIVING IN THE INNER CITY, AND WORKING DIRECTLY WITH THE POLICE. IT WAS FELT THAT THE DIFFERING BACKGROUNDS OF THE FOUR GROUPS STUDIED - MINORITY POOR, DOMINANT WHITE, POLICE LEADERSHIP, AND PATROLMEN - INFLUENCE THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM. THE FINAL SECTION OF THE ARTICLE SUGGESTS RESPONSES TO THE PROBLEMS OF POLICE-MINORITY COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP. EMPHASIS IS ON TRAINING THE POLICE OFFICER TO LEARN TO DEAL WITH DIFFERING DEMANDS OF DIFFERING CLIENTELE.
