This document describes the goals and activities of collaborative programs involving police agencies and other agencies in the United States and Canada as part of the Strategic Links Initiative of the Division of State and Provincial Police of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
Abstract
The initiative represents the IACP's commitment to strategic planning and to law enforcement and public safety partnerships. The member agencies provide support activities in the areas of crime laboratory services (crime scene processing, DNA, ballistics, and drug testing), central criminal history repositories, shared communications systems, multi-agency task force management, aviation support, and collaboration on legislation. The first section of the document explains the initiative, summarize the histories of the sponsoring units of the IACP, and list the IACP's strategic intents. The program descriptions are grouped under each of the 10 specific intents: (1) international programs, (2) technology, (3) professional development, (4) personnel issues, (5) working with other organizations, (6) public relations, (7) timely response, (8) ethics, (9) crime control and prevention, and (10) legislation.
