Abstract
Tables that present a "General Comparison" focus on population, community police station size, and police cost; crime, arrest, and traffic rates per 1,000 population; and Part I crimes and attempts reported by the FBI. Data on Part I offenses indicate that in 2002 there were 188,341 Part I offenses (homicide, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft). Data are presented by offense type as well as total offenses known to police. Data are also presented on Part II offenses (other assaults, forgery and counterfeiting, fraud, embezzlement, vandalism, weapon offenses, pimping and pandering, other sex offenses, family offenses, disorderly conduct, vagrancy, and "all other violations"). Data for adult and juvenile arrests cover location and offense type; month and offense type; age, sex, and offense type; and arrests by police jurisdiction. Data on personnel and equipment address location of assignment and classification for civilian personnel; age, years of service, years in present rank, location of assignment, and increase/decrease for sworn personnel; personnel leave, work overtime, and compensation; training division curricula; and automotive equipment.
