The judicial work carried out by the Supervisory Boards during 1981 is documented in statistical tables.
Abstract
Emphasis is on the probation institutions operating under the jurisdiction of the Social Service, limited release, conditional dismissal and preventive detention, and on complaints concerning security measures. Decisions regarding protests lodged by the Public Prosecutor or convicts themselves are also examined. The workload of each Supervisory Board magistrate is calculated. Analysis of the data indicates that while the workload of these Boards is significant, their productivity remains very high. One reason for their effectiveness is that the Board keep proceedings relatively brief. Staffing of the Boards requires careful evaluation of the various types of work to be performed. The current practice of gathering statistical data on Supervisory Board proceedings and on measures taken is duplicative, since these data already are collected by the Central Institute of Statistics, the Ministry of Grace and Justice, and the offices of the Public Prosecutors.
