Wm. Bradford Reynolds, Assistant General of the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, presents a statement on the budget and policy decisions of the civil rights enforcement program to the House Subcommittee on Civil and Constitutional Rights on April 17, 1981.
Abstract
A description of the activities of the Civil Rights Division focuses on criminal civil rights prosecutions, the administration of the Voting Rights Act, discrimination in public employment, discrimination in public education, administration of the Fair Housing Act, and the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act. An attached reply by the House Judiciary Committee requesting the Assistant Attorney General to amend inaccuracies in the statement calls attention to overstatements concerning cases prosecuted under the 1964 Civil Rights Act (employment discrimination), the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act, and the Title IV of the 1964 Civil Rights Act (school desegregation). Included is a response by the assistant Attorney General to the subcommittee, defending the objectives and administration of the Civil Rights Division.
