This document presents the text of a declaration adopted by the Seventh Asia Crime Prevention Foundation World Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in New Delhi, India in November 1999 and focusing on effective regional cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice.
Abstract
The declaration focuses on international cooperation in the areas of transnational organized crime, prosecution, prison overcrowding, environmental offenses, and women and children as victims of crime. Recommended actions include policy, legal, institutional, and technical reforms to ensure effective regional and international implementation of the United Nations instruments against transnational organized crime and the establishment of an Asian center for addressing transnational organized crime. Additional recommendations include facilitating international cooperation and active collaboration among prosecutors to provide an effective response to complex and sophisticated crime, the implementation of United Nations standards and norms for the institutional and non-institutional treatment of offenders, and international and regional efforts to eliminate violence against women and children and exploitation of them.
