This report presents and analyzes the results of the State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Profile data for the States' 1987 fiscal year.
Abstract
All 50 States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico provided information on resources, services, and needs related to alcohol and drug abuse problems within their States. Information covers the following areas: funding levels and sources; client admission characteristics; intravenous drug abuse; State model product availability; lead staff contacts for AIDS, data collection, drunk driving, evaluation, and homeless programs; top policy issues; major unmet needs; and significant changes in treatment and/or prevention services. In addition to the need for a general increase in funds to support treatment and prevention services, the States indicated other needs, including increased services to youth and women, dually-diagnosed clients, intravenous drug abusers with AIDS, ethnic minorities, the homeless, and the elderly. Other needs identified were to expand prevention and early intervention services, to increase program staff positions, to provide staff training and raise salaries, and to design and provide detoxification services. 21 tables, 3 figures, appended supplementary data and information.
