Its purpose is to provide financial support to project that will improve the administration of justice in the State courts. Through grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts, the Institute provides funds to State courts and organizations that will improve judicial administration. The manual provides information on types of grants available and the funding schedule, as well as recommendations to grant writers and grantees. Also discussed are the scope of the grant program, eligibility for award, types of projects and size of awards, concept-paper requirements for new projects, and application requirements for new projects. Other topics the manual discusses are application review procedures, renewal funding procedures and requirements, compliance requirements, financial requirements, and grant adjustments. The manual contains 13 special-interest funding categories, three of which are new in fiscal 1994: "Evaluation of Court- Connected Alternative Dispute Resolution," "Facilitating the Appropriate Use of Intermediate Sanctions," and "The Impact of Health Care-Related Issues on the State Courts."
