These two volumes present 48 previously published journal articles, book chapters, and other papers focusing on government-sponsored crime, including war making, genocide, State-sponsored terrorism, crimes against citizens, and other forms of crime.
The papers focus on government-related crimes in the United States, European countries, the People's Republic of China, South Africa, Colombia, Yugoslavia, and other countries. Most of the papers were originally published during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Individual papers focus on conceptual, definitional, and methodological issues related to government crime; the types of government crime; State crime in various countries; and explanations of State crime. Additional papers focus on the role of human rights organizations in identifying and disseminating information about particular cases of government violations of human rights and the relationship between public disclosure, scandal, organizational deviance, and organizational reform. Further articles examine policing of State crime by international organizations, the role of international law in response to State crime, the adjudication of government criminals, and the prevention of State crime.
