This report offers a comprehensive overview of Ohio’s criminal justice system, incorporating the most recent statistics and information in the areas of crime, victims, law enforcement, courts, corrections, and juvenile justice.
With the objective to inform Ohio residents (Ohioans) on crime and justice issues, the Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) produced the State of Crime and Justice in Ohio. The report incorporates the latest available statistics and research findings to present a comprehensive picture of Ohio’s criminal justice system. The report includes detailed information on: violent and property crime, victims of crime, law enforcement and technology, the accused, the court system, corrections and alternatives to incarceration, and the juvenile justice system. Emerging issues and trends identified as having a major impact on the Ohio community and its citizens include: gangs and the Internet, human trafficking, mentally ill individuals in the criminal justice system, participation in the legal system, sex offender registration and notification (SORN), serious youthful offender legislation, RECLAIM (Reasoned and Equitable Community and Local Alternatives to the Incarceration of Minors) Ohio, and juvenile sex offenders.
