This report presents and analyzes quantitative information on the social, demographic, health, educational, and legal characteristics of children and their families in New York State.
Abstract
It also presents and analyzes trends to identify relationships among the separate topics and to identify emerging issues and progress on longstanding issues. Data came from more than 20 Federal, State, and municipal agencies and commissions. The text is designed to meet the information needs of State and local government officials, program planners, service providers, advocates, and researchers. Individual sections focus on population trends, age, sex, race and ethnicity, migration, mortality, numbers and types of households, children's living arrangements, characteristics of parents, taxes and family income, labor force participation, and statistics on poverty. Other sections discuss child care needs and arrangements, children with special needs, sexually transmitted diseases, adolescent pregnancy, substance use, access to prevention and health promotion, school enrollment, educational programs, student performance, dropouts, child abuse and neglect, and children in the juvenile justice system.
