Workshop papers assess current West German crime problems and propose both preventive and repressive control measures.
Abstract
Initial speakers review crime trends over recent decades and the status of both perceived and actual public security. Special problems highlighted in individual papers include organized crime and foreigner overrepresentation in criminal activity. Also considered are the effects of repressive police activities in public demonstrations, the development of broad crime prevention policies, the nature of violence, and legislative and fiscal requirements for improved law enforcement capability. Several topics are viewed from different perspectives by speakers representing the policymaking and law enforcement sectors. Individual papers contain bibliographies. For individual papers, see NCJ 89222-33.
