THIS REPORT ANALYZES THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL, STATE, AND REGIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND THE IMPACT THAT THIS DEVELOPMENT CAN AND SHOULD HAVE ON TEXAS.
Abstract
FOLLOWING AN INTRODUCTION, CHAPTER II ATTEMPTS TO ESTABLISH A BASIC WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF THE NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER, WHICH SERVES AS A CONNECTING LINK FOR ALL SYSTEMS BEING DEVELOPED. CHAPTER III BRIEFLY DESCRIBES THE INTERSTATE ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP A PROTOTYPE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA AND STATISTICS SYSTEM WHICH IS REPRESENTED BY PROJECT SEARCH. CHAPTER IV ANALYSES THE PRESENT STATE ACTIVITY AND BRIEFLY DESCRIBES THE PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH A TEXAS CRIME INFORMATION CENTER. CHAPTER V IS CONCERNED WITH THE REGIONAL EFFORTS TO DEVELOP LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND EMPHASIZES THE ACTIVITY IN NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS. CHAPTER VI DISCUSSES THE ORGANIZATIONAL ROLES AND RELATIONSHIPS WHICH ARE DEVELOPING AND SEEKS TO EXAMINE THE PROBLEMS OF POLICY MAKING, ADMINISTRATION, STATE-REGIONAL INTERACTION, IMPACT OF NATIONAL SYSTEMS, AND CRITERIA FOR USE IN EVALUATING REGIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEM PROPOSALS.
