THIS 1977 POLICE REPORT IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES AND INFORMATION ON CRIME TO RESIDENTS OF ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.
Abstract
DETAILED STATISTICAL DATA ARE PRESENTED IN SEVEN SECTIONS, ACCORDING TO 3-YEAR AND 5-YEAR COMPARISONS OF CRIME AND POLICE ACTIVITIES COVERING 1975-1977 AND 1973-1977: (1) TOTAL INDEX CRIMES, INCLUDING HOMICIDE, RAPE, ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BREAKING AND ENTERING (BURGLARY), LARCENY, THEFT FROM AUTOMOBILES, THEFT OF AUTOMOBILE PARTS AND ACCESSORIES, BICYCLE THEFT, THEFT FROM BUILDINGS THEFT FROM COIN-OPERATED MACHINES, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT; (2) CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS, INCLUDING SUCH VIOLENT CRIMES AS HOMICIDE, RAPE, ROBBERY, AND ASSAULT; (3) CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY (RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY, COMMERCIAL BREAKING AND ENTERING, LARCENY, AND AUTOMOBILE THEFT); (4) AGGREGATE COMPARISONS FOR THE CITY, COUNTY, STATE, AND NATION; (5) VICTIM/ SUSPECT ANALYSIS, A STATISTICAL DISPLAY OF VICTIM CHARACTERISTICS BY CRIME CATEGORY AND CROSS-REFERENCED WITH OFFENDER TYPOLOGY; (6) BEAT ANALYSIS, INCLUDING A SUMMARY OF POLICE CALLS FOR SERVICE DISPATCHED AS PRIORITY CALL, BY FREQUENCY OF BEAT, AND BY AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME; AND (7) CLEARANCE, CLOSURE AND ARREST INFORMATION RESULTING FROM THE ACTIVITIES OF ALL MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS. THE FINAL SECTION OF THE REPORT CONTAINS AN ALPHABETICAL INDEX OF INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN THE PRECEDING SIX SECTIONS. FIVE GOALS FOR 1978 ARE NOTED: INCREASE POLICE RESOURCE UTILIZATION WITHOUT INCREASING THE NUMBER OF POLICE PERSONNEL, INCREASE CITIZEN AWARENESS OF THEIR ROLE IN CRIME PREVENTION, ACHIEVE AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TIME OF 4 MINUTES, MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF QUALITY ON ALL CASES INVESTIGATED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ASSURE THEIR SUCCESSFUL PROSECUTION, AND PROVIDE ALTERNATIVES SO THAT THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS NOT OVERBURDENED WITH INDIVIDUALS AND CASES THAT COULD BE HANDLED THROUGH OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES. AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN ST. PETERSBURG IS INCLUDED. (DEP)
