THIS STUDY ASSESSES THE ROLE OF THE CRIME COMMISSION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LOCAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, REPORTS ITS STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES, AND MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE NEXT DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE OF THE COMMISSION.
Abstract
DATA FOR THE STUDY WERE OBTAINED FROM A SURVEY OF THE ATTITUDES OF OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES TOWARDS THE CRIME COMMISSION AND AN EXAMINATION OF THE COMMISSION'S RECORDS. STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE COMMISSION ARE EVALUATED ON INTRA-AGENCY AND INTER-AGENCY LEVELS. THE PRIMARY WEAKNESSES OF THE COMMISSION INCLUDE THE TURNOVER RATE, THE ABSENCE OF A DIRECTOR, THE EXPERTISE OF THE STAFF, AND THE LACK OF INVOLVEMENT IN GRASS-ROOTS COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR RESTRUCTURING AND REORGANIZING THE COMMISSION.
