STATISTICS FOR ALL OF WEST GERMANY COVERING A SEVEN-YEAR PERIOD DURING WHICH THERE WERE 796 CASES INVOLVING 899 VICTIMS, FOR AN AVERAGE OF 128 VICTIMS PER YEAR.
Abstract
THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED METHODS WERE STRANGULATION AND BEATING TO DEATH. OTHER METHODS WERE SUFFOCATION, POISONING, DROWNING, STARVATION, STABBING AND SHOOTING. MORE THAN A THIRD OF THE VICTIMS WERE NOT YET SIX MONTHS OLD, AND A LITTLE LESS THAN A FIFTH OF THEM WERE OVER SIX YEARS OF AGE. IN ALMOST ONE HALF OF THE CASES, THE CHILDREN WERE KILLED BY THEIR MOTHERS, AND IN ABOUT ONE FIFTH OF THE CASES BY THEIR FATHERS. IN MORE THAN FOUR OUT OF EVERY FIVE CASES, THERE WAS A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MURDERER AND VICTIM. --IN GERMAN
