THEORY THAT THE REHABILITATION OF A FEMALE JUVENILE DELINQUENT IS MORE DIFFICULT THAN THAT OF HER MALE COUNTERPART DUE TO CERTAIN PSYCHOCULTURAL ASPECTS OF SOCIETY AND THE NATURE OF THE REHABILITATION PROCESS.
Abstract
IN AN ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE WHERE THIS DIFFERENCE LIES, THIS ARTICLE CONSIDERS THE ROLES ASSIGNED TO THE TWO SEXES BY SOCIETY, THE DOUBLE STANDARD, AND THE NEGATIVE IDENTITY OF THE FEMALE DELINQUENT. THE AUTHOR ALSO EXPLAINS HOW FEMALE DELINQUENTS REACT DIFFERENTLY TO VARIOUS ASPECTS INHERENT TO THE INSTITUTIONAL REHABILITATION PROCESS, SUCH AS INVOLVEMENT IN A GROUP, IDENTIFICATION, CONFORMITY, AND SEPARATION FROM THE INSTITUTION. --IN FRENCH.
