The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, in partnership with the National Institute of Justice, is soliciting proposals for evaluating the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) Program.
Abstract
The GREAT initiative began in 1991, with the goal of designing and implementing a gang resistance program. The resulting program uses the skills of Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies to educate elementary school students about gang-prone areas and about the destructive consequences of gang membership. The program's purpose is to prevent youth violence and crime by reducing gang involvement. What sets GREAT apart from most other law enforcement educational programs is its focus on behavior instructional objectives. A rigorous evaluation is planned to assess the implementation and effectiveness of the GREAT initiative. This document contains a solicitation request for evaluating GREAT, a description of proposal submission requirements, and application information.
