IN THIS STUDY, THE DISTRIBUTION OF REPORTED HEROIN USE IN THE FAMILY AND AMONG FRIENDS IN A SAMPLE OF RESPONDENTS SELECTED FROM A GHETTO COMMUNITY WAS EXAMINED.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS STUDIED A SAMPLE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY IN ORDER TO LINK A SERIES OF FINDINGS IN A MANNER THAT FACILITATED THE ORDERING AND INTEGRATION OF SEVERAL THEMES RELEVANT TO EFFORTS TO EXPLAIN REPORTED HEROIN USE BY FAMILY MEMBERS OR ACQUAINTANCES WAS OBTAINED FROM SUBJECTS LIVING IN THE COMMUNITY. ONE OF THE PURPOSES OF THE STUDY WAS TO LOCATE THOSE WHO REPORT HEROIN USE BY FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS IN THE SOCIAL CLASS AND ETHNIC GROUP STRUCTURE OF THE COMMUNITY. A SECOND PURPOSE WAS TO EXAMINE THE INFLUENCE OF MIGRANT-NATIVE STATUS ON SOCIAL CLASS LOCATION AND ON ETHNIC GROUP PATTERNS. THE THIRD OBJECTIVE WAS TO STUDY TWO ATTITUDE AREAS, ATTITUDES TOWARD CHILD REARING AND RACIAL IDENTIFICATION, THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH MIGRANT-NATIVE STATUS AND WITH CONTIGUITY WITH HEROIN USERS.
