This report describes the activities of municipal social service agencies in Norway in 1991; these agencies included economic assistance agencies, child welfare agencies, institutions for children and youth, and institutions for alcoholics and drug addicts.
Abstract
The data came from official records. Economic assistance was received by 38 persons per 1,000 population, with the highest rates among persons aged 20-24. Approximately 12 percent were employed, and 35 percent were not in the workforce. A total of 26,000 children received assistance under the Child Welfare Act. In addition, children's and youth homes had 856 beds, psychiatric hospital units for children and youth had 409 beds, and institutions for alcoholics and drug addicts had 2,842 beds.
