Abstract
The collection consists of 1 data file containing 601 incidents of thefts of and from trucks, and 93 variables as recorded in the files of the Safe, Loft, and Truck Squad (SLATS) of the New York City Police Department. All cases, including crimes, attempted crimes, arrests, and surveillances occurring between 1979 and 1980, were selected. A 20-percent sample of all incidents involving truck hijacking and grand larcenies of or from trucks occurring between 1976 and 1978 was obtained. Data on the method used to commit the crime, treatment of the hijacked truck driver, type of property stolen, and characteristics of the perpetrators were collected, where available. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences was used to prepare the data.
