Abstract
This article defines sibling abuse in two forms: the act of physical violence between siblings and the act of incest. The author states that sibling violence occurs more frequently than any other type of family violence, yet is the least likely to be reported to authorities. Effective intervention and prevention programs have not been developed or tested, due to the lack of scientific interest, reliable studies, and a universally accepted definition of "sibling abuse." Brief discussions of sibling incest and techniques parents can exercise to prevent or intervene in sibling abuse are included. The author concludes that further studies of sibling abuse are needed. In the meantime, parents are urged to continue to do their best to safeguard their children from such abuse by providing a healthy and nurturing home environment. 7 references
