THIS ARTICLE, INTENDED FOR SHOOTING RANGE PLANNERS AND OPERATORS, ALERTS THE READER TO THE BENEFITS AND DISADVANTAGES OF SEVERAL RANGE VENTILATION METHODS USED TO CLEAR GASES AND LEAD PARTICLES FROM THE AIR.
Abstract
GOOD RANGE VENTILATION IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO PROVIDE GOOD VISIBILITY AND TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF LEAD POISONING. ACCESSIBLE LEAD IN A SHOOTING RANGE ORIGINATES IN THE DISINTEGRATION OF BULLETS ON IMPACT PLATES OF THE BULLET TRAP, FROM LEAD COMPOUNDS IN THE PRODUCTS OF COMBUSION, AND FROM LOSS OF LEAD FROM FRICTION WITH THE BORE. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE FEDERAL AGENCIES CHARGED WITH VARIOUS REGULATORY ASPECTS OF THE SHOOTING RANGE VENTILATION PROBLEM. AFTER EXPLORING THE VARIOUS METHODS OF VENTILATION, THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES WITH SEVERAL PRECAUTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN SHOOTING RANGE OPERATIONS.
