Abstract
The author describes birth place, social origin, occupation, and height of 95 convicts who reached Hobart Town, Tasmania, in 1842 and 1843. These convicts were young, for the most part, and were a combination of skilled literates and an approximately equal number who described themselves as laborers, who probably were far less literate. In stature, they resembled men from similar backgrounds, and they merged into the convict and free population of a burgeoning pastoral society. Tables, references
