This document summarizes successful drug prevention programs implemented in schools and communities in Nevada.
Abstract
The programs and practices highlighted here were based in prevention research and worked well in particular settings. Most of these programs were school-based, while others demonstrated linkages with local and State education and governmental agencies. These community efforts typify the collaborative nature of all comprehensive programs, and emphasize strategies proven to promote resiliency in youth. The specific programs described here have involved police-school partnerships, student support groups to prevent dropping out, a counteraction to rural isolation, and the provision of effective child and family social services.
