A REPORT ON VIRGINIA'S JUVENILE AND DOMESTIC RELATIONS DISTRICT COURTS, CONTAINING RECOMMENDATIONS AND PROPOSED LEGISLATION FOR GIVING THESE COURTS MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ADVOCATING CHILDREN'S INTERESTS.
Abstract
THE REPORT PROPOSES A NEW CHAPTER 10 TO REPLACE THE EXISTING LAW GOVERNING JUVENILE AND DOMESTIC RELATIONS DISTRICT COURTS IN CHAPTER 8 OF TITLE 16.1. THIS PROPOSED LEGISLATION GIVES GREATER EMPHASIS TO COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WITH TROUBLED CHILDREN THROUGH REHABILITATIVE TREATMENT PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL CARE. IT ALSO GIVES THE COURTS ADDED RESPONSIBILITY FOR MONITORING THOSE PROGRAMS IN WHICH IT PLACES CHILDREN. INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ARE A DISCUSSION OF THE LEGISLATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE TEXT OF THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION.
