Abstract
The total number of serious crimes reported decreased for the second consecutive year, but a review of the State's crime trend for the last 10 years reveals that the 52,425 serious crimes reported in 1982 represent a 16 percent increase over the 45,311 crimes reported in 1973. Moreover, rape has increased for the fourth consecutive year, rising from a low of 86 offenses in 1973 to an all-time high of 186 offenses in 1982. Approximately 15 tables, 13 references, and a glossary are provided.
