PROCEDURES FOR CLASSIFYING JUVENILE OFFENDERS ACCORDING TO THE INTERPERSONAL MATURITY LEVEL SYSTEM, DESCRIPTION OF THE THEORY, RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY DATA, AND RULES FOR USING THE INSTRUMENTS.
Abstract
DESCRIPTIONS ARE PRESENTED OF THE THREE LEVELS AND NINE SUBTYPES OF DEVELOPMENT OF INTEGRATIONS APPLICABLE TO JUVENILES. COMMENTS ARE THEN MADE ON TWO METHODS OF MEASUREMENT, ONE THAT RELIES ALMOST COMPLETELY ON IMPRESSIONS FROM AN INTERVIEW AND THE SECOND WHICH RELIES ON SELF-REPORTED PSYCHOMETRIC DATA. HIGHLIGHTS ARE GIVEN OF TWO MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTS - THE JESNESS INVENTORY AND THE JESNESS BEHAVIOR CHECKLIST. FOLLOWING A DISCUSSION OF RELIABILITY, CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF VALIDITY - CONCURRENT VALIDITY, CONSTRUCT VALIDITY, CONVERGENT VALIDITY, AND PREDICTIVE VALIDITY. OTHER TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE MATCHING CASEWORKER AND CLIENT AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF I-LEVEL SUBTYPES IN VARIOUS POPULATIONS.
