This report presents 1991 sentencing statistics for the higher courts in Victoria (Australia).
Abstract
A preliminary section summarizes major legislative changes to Victorian Criminal Law which have affected the pattern of sentencing statistics since 1980. The tables present statistical measures of penalties and data on the disposition of offenses, penalties imposed for each offense, penalties imposed based on principal offense, and minimum terms as a percentage of effective sentence. Other tabulations relate to suspended sentences in terms of portion of original term suspended and portion of original term suspended by operational period. Data on sentencing and dispositions by principal offense are tabulated. The final section presents graphs of sentences imposed based on statistical measures of penalties. 13 tables
